Allotment gardening is one of the country’s most popular activities, with over 100,000 people on waiting lists for allotments in the UK. For many, their allotment is not only a place to grow food but a vital lung for their community, family, and their physical & mental health. However allotment land is in high demand and in the past 10 years the UK government has approved 80% of applications to build on allotments.
Based on true events and inspired by interviews from allotments all over the UK, Plots tells the story of one group of plotholders who unite in a battle to save their soil from developers. Their fight to save their own allotment turns into a nationwide campaign to save the country’s plots.
Following interviews with plotholders around the UK, Finn spent a week with collaborators at Wiston Lodge devising and working in the vegetable gardens. Inspired by the material created, Finn composed a script and songs before the group returned for a 2 week workshop in September 2016 at Theatre Royal Stratford East.
